Circulation systems for library staff

RFID Staff stations of Dialoc ID are handy electronic tools for library staff to convert, check-out, return or renew library materials.

In general, an RFID device behaves more or less as a barcode scanner, the advantage of RFID labels being that the identification data from materials are not scanned visually but in open air. This specific property makes it possible to identify multiple items at once. In the library, “stack processing” is often used.

The RFID Staff stations are available in 3 versions; a table-top model, an undercounter model and a shielded version. For all versions, the chosen materials must extend the product life time. In practice this means that the workpads are made of the hardest (= most durable) type of plastic. The shielded version also takes the installation environment into account, so that disturbances from and to other devices are minimized.

Dialoc ID delivers a very user-friendly software with the staff stations consisting of two applications:

  • a plug-in to automate the check-out, renewal and return processes in the library system
  • a conversion application that can be used to program RFID labels, supporting the most commonly used data models

An extensive additional repair module is optionally available with the conversion software that can automate the repair (reprogramming) of incorrectly programmed labels.

To return materials, the staff can also use RFID Bookdrops and sorting machines that automate the intake process, even 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, to facilitate returns also outside the library’s opening hours. You can find more information about this under “Return and Sorting”.

RFID technology not only speeds up the lending process; it also makes an automated inventory and search process possible. The reliability and efficiency gain that can be achieved contribute to a complete and optimal circulation traffic.
